This week's article: History Repeats - The Historical Novel Society Australasia Conference
I do a lot of social media work: for my writing, for my day job, and now, for the Historical Novel Society Australasia, in particular their upcoming conference. #HNSA2019 is the official hashtag and if you search on Facebook or Twitter, you’ll be discovering lots of articles and conference information sourced by the social media team. I’m a part of the Facebook team and will also be blogging about some of the authors feature in this year’s program (so watch this space).
We go full steam from this coming Monday, starting off with a look at Jackie French the #HNSA2019 VIP guest, an interesting study project on Italian migrant experience between the world wars and the 1970s through their letters, and the National Museum’s “Defining Moments” web project. And this is just the start. There will be loads more following.
The conference program is jam-packed full of workshops, panels, and guest authors. It starts on the Friday with a day of workshops and then carries into the weekend, including a dinner on Saturday night. Ticket packages cover the weekend – you can get one or all weekend packages. The Friday sessions and the dinner are sold separately. I’ll pop a link below for you to look through everything on offer. I recommend making yourself a cuppa, finding a comfy spot to sit, and allowing yourself time to scroll through everything. Actually, make a pot of tea (or coffee) and go browse the Sydney Writers Festival Program while you’re at it.
The conference runs from 26 to 27 October, includes a Craft & Publishing day on the Friday and is hosted by Western Sydney University’s Writing & Society Research Centre, Parramatta campus. The conference website has a page on accommodation ideas for those travelling from out of the area or who just want to stay close to the action and provides all the usual transport options.
I recommend subscribing to the Historical Novel Society Australasia newsletter for all the latest updates.
It's going to be a fantastic weekend. See you there!
